The top 5 reasons to be using a tanning bed today!

Why tan? Doesn't that give you cancer? But what if I'm claustrophobic?

These are all things I get asked on the daily when I talk about working at a tanning salon and all the answers are pretty simple. I'm going to share my top 5 benefits of using tanning beds.


1. Vitamin D

This one is pretty self explanatory. Fake sun still produces vitamin D! Vitamin D is something everyone can use a little more of, especially here in Montana. Vitamin D deficiency can cause anxiety and depression as well as just an all over sun-craving feeling. Tanning beds can help you get more of that vitamin D that you need. This doesn't mean you have to tan daily, once or twice a week is efficient as well, especially in the winter.

2. Reducing Symptoms of PMS

This benefit is for all the ladies out there (and is definitely a benefit to their other half). It has been proven that exposure to bright light such as that in tanning beds can help calm symptoms of Post Menstrual Syndrome (PMS). These symptoms include mood swings, mild depression, irritability, physical discomfort, and social withdrawal.

3. Skin Condition Treatments

Tanning beds can help treat many skin conditions such as psoriasis, acne, and eczema. The light helps to target the problem areas and some medication that are taken for these conditions can work better when in conjunction with strong UV exposure

4. Reducing The Risk of Skin Cancer

What? Reducing skin cancer? Yes! Tanning beds can actually help reduce the risk of certain types of skin cancer. Not only skin cancer though, Vitamin D boosts can help to reduce the risks of cancers such as breast, ovarian, and kidney cancer. Now skin cancer, the risk is actually lower in a tanning bed than outdoors. Crazy, right? It's due to the amount of time you spend in each area and what kinds of barriers there are between you and the light. When using tanning beds you are less likely to fall asleep in them, however, if you do they automatically shut off! There are also more barriers such as heavy acrylic and lotion that you wear while tanning indoors. You are at a lower risk of burns while in beds but you get the same benefits!

5. Improving Weight Loss Efforts

Indoor tanning can help boost your weight loss efforts! Which is obviously something that is awesome when you can tan where you workout! UV rays help to boost your metabolic rate. As your metabolism speeds up, you burn more calories. Not only that but tanning helps to give you a more toned look to your skin as it helps to define your muscles!
